The Problem

Brick and Mortar Considerations

Buildings and properties in Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme features a diverse range of brick types, including:

  • Pressed Red Bricks (common along Church Road and Hulme Hall Road)
  • Wire-Cut Buff Bricks used in post-war properties in estates off Woods Lane
  • Glazed Brick Accents on commercial units near Cheadle Hulme Shopping Centre

Mortar composition varies as well, with lime-based mortars typically found in older properties and OPC-based mortars used in modern buildings. Our cleaning approach is adjusted accordingly, ensuring that lime mortar joints are preserved using non-invasive techniques.

Equipment

What Our Brick Cleaning Service Involves

While every property is different, the general idea is the same: we use specialist equipment and controlled techniques to clean the brickwork without damaging the surface.

This isn’t the same as using a pressure washer from the garden shed—our tools are designed specifically for work on brick surfaces, including older or more delicate ones.

All equipment undergoes regular servicing and pre-deployment inspections, ensuring safe and efficient operation. Our operatives are Stonehealth Rosette System trained and carry CSCS cards with façade cleaning endorsements.

We employ equipment systems only from manufacturers that meet PAS 12504 and BS EN 1504 standards where applicable.

Our on-site equipment includes:

DOFF Integra System

Manufactured by
Stonehealth

A high-temperature (up to 150°C), low-pressure steam cleaning system.

Gentle enough to avoid displacement of mortar joints or surface etching.

Particularly suitable for:

TORC Cleaning System

Manufactured by
Stonehealth

Uses a swirling vortex of low-pressure air, fine inert granules, and water. This is particularly suitable for carved brick features, decorative lintels, and plinths where precision is critical.

Particularly suitable for:

Falch Skid-Mounted Pressure Units

Manufactured by
Falch

For performance-driven applications, we deploy Falch 1200 bar cold water systems. These are diesel-driven, skid-mounted units ideal for controlled removal of surface treatments.

Particularly suitable for:

ThermaTech Super-Heated System

Manufactured by
Restorative Techniques

A modular cleaning system operating at 110°C–150°C.

It is often selected for its adaptability with inter-changeable nozzles and lance extensions.

Particularly suitable for:

What Makes Us Stand Out

How Much Does Brick Cleaning Cost?

To give you a clear guide: a single garden wall in Timperley or Cheadle with light algae is often between £275 and £425.

A full front elevation of a Victorian terrace in Didsbury or Sale with heavy soot staining is typically £595 to £895. A large detached home in Hale, Bowdon or Alderley Edge with multiple elevations can range from £950 to £1,500.

Price is based on size, access, the type of staining, and the age of the brick. Send photos, and I will give you a fixed price back the same day.

I am based in WA14 and I work across South Manchester and North Cheshire every week. Recent work includes a soot-blackened Victorian semi in Didsbury, a full algae clean on a boundary wall in Wilmslow, and a paint removal on a stone and brick property in Alderley Edge.

FAQ

Brick Cleaning FAQ's

Will this damage my mortar?

No. Damage is caused by high pressure lances held too close. My method uses chemicals to do the work, followed by a rinse that is lower pressure than most domestic pressure washers. I inspect every joint before starting.

Yes. I have worked on Grade II listed properties in, Manchester, Cheshire, Knutsford and the surrounding villages. I use the gentlest effective method and I provide method statements and COSHH sheets for conservation officers when required.

Carbon staining is caused by the environment. After a full clean the brick will stay clear for many years. I can apply a breathable water repellent on suitable brickwork which helps to slow future soiling without trapping moisture.

In many cases, yes. I use a different poultice system for paint. I will test it first to check the brick underneath is sound. I will be honest about the expected result before you commit.

Yes, when applied by a qualified person. I am certified to use these products. We protect all planting, we contain the rinse water, and we neutralise the area fully after the clean.
